From the coastal mountains of the Western Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa, H. minima var. minima is a small species related to H. pumila and one that slowly offsets, forming small clumps. Our plants are from near Bredasdorp. This is a winter-rainfall area, but this does not seem to affect its survival in the hot and summer-rainfall Tucson. These plants are seedlings in 4-inch pots.
